Fall 2011

Shiloh: A place for people to grow and learn, to share and create a new future…where lives are changed forever.

Best one ever! God continues to allow us to be His ambassadors in the lives of hundreds of deserving children. Isaiah 43:19 “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” God has touched the lives of hundreds of children in dynamic ways, I believe that only the transforming power of God can change a person’s life and we are seeing it happen at Shiloh Camp. This summer with the help of a wonderful staff of young men and women, and a handful of teenage volunteers, the incredible

power of God was at work throughout the beautiful grounds of Shiloh. The sight, the sounds, the laughs, the joy, the peace and presence of God was evident each week. God continues to use big and small things to touch the lives of children.

One day I watched with amusement when a group of 13 and 14 year old boys prepared to enter the petting zoo.

There was lots of laughing and joking in anticipation of experiencing the animals until one boy looked in the pen and saw the goats actually had horns! It was so fun to watch the earlier boyhood bravado melt into extreme anxiety about entering the gate of a horned animal that they were unfamiliar with, the loud banter lowered to an unsettling silence and blank stares directed at Hershey the billy goat. The petting zoo instructor assured the now quiet and nervous boys that it was okay and that our goats, like all the other animals, were safe and handpicked for their friendliness as well as their ability to relate to kids. The boys shuffled into the gate like a bunch of hens going to the hen house and cackled and clucked when Hershey and the other animals blurted their native tongue Ba-a-a-a-a! After a few moments of staring at one another, Hershey and the boys soon became fast friends, and the boys’ fear of the 2 horned, 4 hooved animal was soon replaced with “Hey, watch this”, as they scurried around the pen looking for anything green to feed Hershey and the other animals. For 45 minutes boys got to be boys, and the challenges of life as an urban teen full of presumptuous posturing, and hard countenances, was put at bay as the boys fed goats green leaves, petted chickens, cuddled guinea pigs and learned the difference between sheep and goats firsthand. Experiences like these happen every day, all day, at Shiloh Summer Camp and provide many opportunities to share the beauty of God’s creation and his love for all of us, no matter what we may look like on the outside. Thank you for supporting Shiloh, where kids learn life lessons that turn into faith lessons that change their young lives for time and eternity.

Fall 2010

Epic… “An episode in the lives of men in which heroic deeds are performed or attempted”

The biggest summer ever at Shiloh summer camp is best described as Epic! 510 campers poured through the gates excited to have the best week of their lives! The staff was trained and poised to pour out buckets full of love on deserving children. The place never looked so grand with trees trimmed and grass cut nice and tight, new signage shouting out a colorful welcome. Over 450 families impacted, 4,860 meals served, over 1,000 mounts and dismounts on to the back of willing horses, 2 pallets of water inhaled by thirsty campers (in two weeks!), 3,000 arrows launched into archery targets, 1000 plus freezie pops awarded to jubilant family groups of campers, and hundreds of decisions for Christ in the form of first time commitments or reaffirming their commitment to Christ! Wow, what a summer!

The greatest gift given is life itself. God has given us an opportunity at eternal life through Jesus Christ His Son. What an epic gift! Our theme this summer was “Higher Definition” and the verse was from Romans 12:2 “ Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Having Christ in our life gives greater focus, a sense of purpose, and clarity for our eternal future – all in ‘Higher Definition!’ Thanks for helping make this summer an epic experience at Shiloh for our campers!
