To celebrate the occasion, Shiloh will host an announcement and facility tour Monday, May 24th at 10:00 a.m.

Donors include Chesapeake Energy, David and Kim Rainbolt, David Hudiburg, David and Myrna Lightfoot and Ralph and Helen Mason.

Stephan Moore, Shiloh executive director, is grateful for the support received from the community through the fundraising process.

“It has been a longtime dream to officially acquire this property and for the fundraising to be completed in just four months is an enormous leap for the ministry. I do believe there was divine intervention in allowing this to happen so quickly.

Through the generosity of our gracious donors, we are now able to move forward purposefully to advance the mission of Shiloh, better serve our campers and staff in the summer and extend programming to impact the community year round.”

Since its inception in 2001, Shiloh Summer Camp has provided day camps for thousands of at-risk children in the greater Oklahoma City area. The week-long, Christian-based camps accommodate up to 80 campers per session and provide a safe-haven for children to learn and grow; creating promising futures from often unfortunate situations. By rebuilding confidence and self-assurance Shiloh is sowing the seeds of hope for a brighter tomorrow.

“Only a seven minute drive from the homes of thousands of our central-city kids, Shiloh is truly Oklahoma City’s new backyard,” said David Lightfoot, vice president of Lee Properties. “Stephan Moore has a tremendous love for people as well as the qualifications necessary in camping ministry to really make Shiloh thrive in the coming years. The camp is a genuine blessing to kids and families from all over Oklahoma City.”

Targeting disadvantaged children, between the ages of 8 and 16, Shiloh strives to elevate the vision of youth by renewing optimism and fostering life transformation. Through opportunities such as sports, Bible study, group-building exercises and art, the camp serves as an outlet for children to make healthy, new relationships while addressing real-life situations and obstacles.

“During their camp experience campers encounter things they might not ever be able to experience in their daily lives,” Moore said. “From horseback riding to multiple sports, Shiloh is a true adventure for them. Each activity restores their confidence, ability and positive attitude. Camp is just one week long, but it definitely impacts our campers forever.”

Martha Burger, Chesapeake senior vice president – human and corporate resources said, “As an organization administering to our community’s underprivileged youth, Shiloh has successfully facilitated a culturally relevant environment serving as an excellent model to our city and our country. Many young people need a place to turn to in times of trouble and temptation. The multiple lives changed from Shiloh are a priceless benefit to the community, serving as a hand of hope to children in need.”

Shiloh recently completed two phases of construction including an amphitheater, rope courses, pond and outdoor basketball court. Future plans include a more than $900,000 renovation, transforming Shiloh from a summer program to a year-round, state-of-the-art multi-use facility. New amenities will include multi-purpose auditorium, aquatic facility, chapel, arts center and guest lodge. Upon completion, Shiloh Summer Camp will be the only metro area facility available to organizations, businesses and at-risk youth.

Summer camp is an American tradition. Children can run free in the beauty of nature, eat a snack in the shade of a tree, or stare in fascination at a wild bird or animal passing nearby.
However, in some of Oklahoma City’s urban neighborhoods, children don’t have the opportunity or resources to experience summer camps. These children grow up in a world of concrete and neon lights, facing problems and temptations beyond their years. For the last decade, a group of dedicated individuals have created a camp in the very heart of the city for these urban youth. It is a hidden oasis of trees, streams and wildlife where children receive encouragement, guidance and love— a place called Shiloh Camp.

Nestled off of 63rd and Broadway, Shiloh Camp is 40 acres of fun and activity. Every summer, the Christian camp hosts six one-week long sessions where campers experience everything from basketball to mountain biking to fishing, as well as tackling a ropes course and learning about their faith.

We live in a broken world. There is a line from a song by Charlie Hall that says, “this world is broken, yet beautifully made” and I recognize this truth daily in many ways. I see it every evening when I pass the man on the corner holding a sign that reads, “Vietnam Vet. Anything helps. God bless”. I open the pages of a magazine and read about the Untouchables of India who are shunned and left to die of treatable diseases or in childbirth because a doctor refuses to care for them due to the stigma of their caste.
I hear on the radio about war- torn counties in Africa, South American families who scavenge for food from the city dump, orphaned children in Eastern Europe whose physical needs are met, but who don’t know the love of a human touch…disease, greed, ignorance, intolerance, poverty.
This world is broken yet beautifully made.

A few weeks ago, the mother of three Shiloh campers stopped by with her kids to drop off their camp applica- tions. I was delighted to
see them as these three children have attended camp for at least three years in a row. After Mom fin- ished telling me about each child’s latest accomplishments and struggles, she told me her oldest son who is 15, told her last week that he can’t wait until he’s old enough to work at Shiloh himself.
What an encouragement to hear such a thing! It’s the same feel- ing I get every time I hear a parent or grandparent tell me their child “can’t wait to go back to Shiloh,” or “talks about Shiloh all the time,” or “still wears their camp bracelet.”

Many already know, but for most, this may be surprising news. As of mid-December, I gave my official resignation from Shiloh Summer Camp. It was a difficult decision but ultimately the decision wasn’t mine to make; I spent much time in prayer, in the Word, and seeking counsel from Godly mentors, and through these means, I can say without a doubt that the Lord has called me out of the ministry, at least for a season…

A few days ago, a dear friend of Shiloh asked my what my favorite part of this summer was. Of course, a million moments came to mind and a parade of faces marched through my thoughts, but after a few seconds, it hit me: The greatest thing about the summer was the overwhelming evidence of God’s faithfulness and provision, and the beautiful design of His body of believers working in unison to bring about His Kingdom.

Shiloh Summer Camp 2007 is quickly approaching and we are getting ready to host 6 weeks of camp for over 400 children and teens. I am so excited about seeing all the campers as they arrive…they will be wide eyed with big smiles as they drive in past the well- groomed football field to the freshly painted basketball courts and then past the amazing zip line!! Kids will be ready for a week of fun and will also hear about the love of Jesus and the hope He wants to offer them in
life.
